José Antonio

José Antonio Guayasamin (1979, Ecuador) is a filmmaker and researcher. His work explores the boundaries between documentary and fiction, adopting an ethical and poetic approach to memory, identity, and the representation of marginalized voices in Latin America. His films have been presented in over 40 international festivals and art venues, including Bafici, Huelva, Trieste, Toulouse, Havana, and the Palais de Tokyo. His projects combine research-creation with reflection on collaborative practices and decolonial perspectives in documentary filmmaking. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Quebec in Outaouais (Canada), developing an affective editing project based on indigenous film archives that explores intergenerational dialogue and collective memory.
